ADHD Counseling
ADHD has been diagnosed in 3-7% of the total population, and even in those without a diagnosis, many attention and regulation difficulties can still show up. Presentation of ADHD sometimes looks very different from person to person, and it can be hard to define and attend to all your needs without any guidance.
Some ways ADHD can show up:
-Confusing thoughts that derail your day and make focusing difficult
-Time management difficulties that lead to missed deadlines, appointments, and social time
-Social slip-ups, like accidentally interrupting or losing track of conversations
-Feeling overwhelmed by your normal daily tasks
-Impulsivity and strains in romantic relationships and friendships
Women, men, and nonbinary people all face research-proven limitations in neurodivergent care. At Neurodivergent Ohio, we want to help break down those personal and institutional barriers by creating access to counseling fit for anyone’s needs, informed by life experience and current evidence-based practice as shown by research.
What does ADHD counseling look like?
NDO offers ADHD counseling to anyone, diagnosed or not, ages 12 and up, by our counselor Sammi Veres, LISW (she/her).
Counseling will start by taking an inventory of your personal ADHD experience, your unique strengths and challenges, and the changes you seek in your behaviors and thoughts.
Then, you will explore education, tools, and strategies that supplement those desired changes. You will also reflect on life with ADHD through a compassionate and strengths-based, yet critical and scientific lens, to foster greater understanding and self-acceptance. Additionally, you’ll learn how to communicate about your experience and advocate in places like school, work, and your community for your best interests as a person with ADHD.
Counseling can be short-term, to gain insight and a collection of strategies for a specific issue area, or long-term, for a thorough look through issues and a deep dive into their impact on your mental health.
