Adult Autism Assessments at Neurodivergent Ohio
Our Autism Assessments are designed to provide a thorough, compassionate, and evidence-based understanding of each individual’s strengths, challenges, and support needs. Whether you’re seeking greater self-awareness, clarity in diagnosis, or documentation for accommodations, our goal is to ensure a respectful and validating experience throughout the process.
Step 1: Initial Screening & Developmental History
Your first appointment begins with a detailed intake and review of developmental, behavioral, and medical history. This stage includes interviews with a parent/guardian, partner, or long-term friend and utilizes standardized tools such as the ADI-R and Vineland to build a clear picture of the individual’s early development and day-to-day functioning. Paper assessments will be sent via email to the client and/or third party for completion prior to the next session.
Step 2: Continued Developmental History & Clinical Observation
During the second session, the therapist will meet with both the client and their parent/guardian, partner, or long-term friend. Together, they will complete additional developmental history and then participate in a shared activity while the therapist observes their interaction.
Before this session, clients and their third party will be asked to choose an activity they enjoy doing together - such as a game, craft, puzzle, or cooking/baking project - for the observation portion. This provides valuable insight into social communication, interaction patterns, and strengths.
Please Note: The first two sessions typically last 1-2 hours each.
Step 3: Cognitive and Language Testing/One-on-One observation
The therapist will complete a series of one-on-one assessments and observations to evaluate intellectual functioning and language abilities. These results help inform the overall understanding of the individuals profile.
Depending on the clinical need, an additional session may be recommended to rule out or confirm other possible diagnoses.
Step 4: Results & Recommendations
After testing and analysis, the therapist will meet with the client - and when appropriate, their third party - to review the findings in detail. This collaborative conversation covers diagnostic results, recommendations for interventions and support, and any needed referrals. Clients will also receive an accommodation letter for work or school upon request.
