Step 1: Initial Screening & Developmental History

The first step in our adult autism assessment process includes a detailed intake session and a review of developmental, behavioral, and medical history. This session helps us gather important background information and better understand the client’s lifelong experiences.

Part of this process includes an interview with a parent, guardian, partner, or long-term friend who can provide helpful insight into the client’s developmental history and day-to-day functioning. We also use standardized assessment tools such as the ADI-R and Vineland to support a comprehensive and evidence-based evaluation.

Before the next session, paper assessments will be emailed to the client and designated third party for completion.

Step 2: Continued Developmental History & Clinical Observation

During the second session, the therapist meets with the client and their parent, guardian, partner, or long-term friend to continue gathering developmental history and conduct a clinical observation.

For the observation portion, the client and third party will be asked to choose an activity they enjoy doing together such as a game, puzzle, craft, or cooking project. This interaction gives the therapist valuable information about social communication, relationship patters, interaction style, and individual strengths.

Please note: The first two sessions of our virtual adult autism testing in Ohio typically last 1-2 hours each.

Step 3: Cognitive, Language, and One-on-One Assessment

In the third step of the evaluation, the therapist completes a series of one-on-one observations and assessments to better under4stand intellectual functioning, communication style, and language abilities. These findings help build a fuller picture of the client’s overall profile and support accurate diagnostic clarification.

Depending on clinical need, an additional session may be recommended to help rule out or confirm other diagnoses.

Step 4: Results, Recommendations, and Accomodations

Once testing, scoring, and clinical analysis are complete, the therapist meets with the client, and when appropriate, their third party, to review the results in detail.

The feedback session includes:

• Diagnostic findings

• Personalized recommendations for supports and interventions

• Referrals when appropriate

• Guidance for next steps

Clints may also request an accommodation letter for work or school based on the assessment results.
